Ahmad Jamal: Key Player

In 1956, Jamal replaced guitarist Ray Crawford with drummer Walter Perkins for Count ‘Em 88, but his trio’s brilliant use of spatial dynamics remained. Check out and compare Jamal’s version of “On Green Dolphin Street” with Miles Davis’ version two years later. This was Miles’ Kind Of Blue lineup, with Bill Evans, John Coltrane, Cannonball Adderley, Paul Chambers, and Jimmy Cobb.
